World’s first barocaloric fridge unveiled

At the Calorics 2024 conference, hosted by Prof. Xavier Moya at the University of Cambridge, Barocal shared a working prototype of the world’s first barocaloric refrigerator.
The event brought together researchers and developers working on caloric materials and solid-state cooling and marked a step forward in the real-world application of barocaloric systems.

The prototype, Barocal’s Generation 2 system, successfully cooled bottled drinks during the event, giving a clear view of its potential. With core functionality now demonstrated, work continues to improve system performance and explore routes to commercialisation in collaboration with OEMs and partners.
